Just another update on Daniel for anyone interested who saw my previous post:

http://www.shs-nutrition.com/index.php/community-forums/viewthread/445/

It’s been a month since we started the KD and I can’t explain in words the difference we have seen. I really can’t, you would have had to have seen Daniel pre-KD. Not only the seizures but the moods. It was impossible to take him anywhere as a family due to the constant shouting and crying which breaks your heart and what you don’t need are the looks you get, if it’s not annoyance it’s pity, which is even worse!

In the past month we have been to an amusement park, a water park (under VERY close supervision) and the movies. We are even considering our first holiday abroad since God-knows-when and as a family we couldn’t be happier. There are ups and downs like everything, but where as before the ups we’re like a pitchers mound and the downs like the Grand Canyon, now the ups are like Everest and the downs a hole in the road. I know we are lucky as a friend of ours is having more trouble than we are but I guess everybody’s different.

All the extra planning that goes in to every meal is 100% worth it. As long as you’ve got some scales with you and enough product, in our case Ketocal, you can actually do pretty much what you want as far as travel is concerned. There’s a long way to go (a very long way fingers crossed!) as this’ll mean it’s still working! But at least it will hopefully be a life Daniel can enjoy!

Well it’d be great to hear from anyone else who is following the K Diet to see how you’re getting on.

This is a great story.

I’m a crohns sufferer and was just looking around the forum but even though I have a different condition, it’s always great to hear success stories. Especially those involving children.

I hope Daniel’s success continues and all the best for yourself and your family

Thanks for your kind words Grant.

So far so good. Touch wood. We just pray that every good day is followed by another one and so far, this has been the case. It would still be nice to hear from other people with a kid on the K Diet. I know our experiences have been good in the main, but as I’ve said before, I’m not naive and know that things can quickly change so it would be good to know how others deal with the bad times

Well it’s been a while since my last post, but as anyone caring for someone on the KD will understand, time is most certainly of a premium!!

It’s now been 4 months since we started Daniel on the diet and I’m pleased to report that we are getting back to some sense of normality with our lives as a family. Admittedly, the first couple of weeks (months?) were a real struggle just trying to get our heads around the whole measuring process. As someone who has never really cooked more than a spaghetti bolognase, having to weigh out every gramme of every meal took some getting used to. What really drove us on though were the results. You cannot argue with them. I can’t describe the rage that builds up inside me when I think about how long it took to get Daniel on the diet!! I don’t want to call the the doctors stupid but the sheer level of ignorance surrounding this form of treatment is staggering!! It seems that unless a pharma company is throwing money at them, they’re just not interested!

We, as a family, are looking forward to a proper Christmas and we’ve even started gathering a whole range of recipe ideas helped greatly by SHS (they must love me on this forum!!) and Matthew’s Friends. The joy of being able to take your child Christmas shopping, seeing the lights and getting into the Christmas spirit really can’t be underestimated.

Well, that’s us for now. I’ll post another update closer to Christmas to let you all know how we’re getting on.
